Ramadan continues (Week 1)

The Script You Didn't Write

Story: Fatima, 41, Karachi → Dubai

Fatima was the eldest daughter. In her family, that came with a job description: peacekeeper, translator, second mother.

By 41, she had mediated three family feuds, planned two weddings, and carried secrets that weren't hers to hold. Her own dreams sat in a drawer. Literally — a journal she'd stopped writing in years ago.

"How are you?" people asked.

"Alhamdulillah. Busy. Blessed."

The script ran automatically. She didn't write it, but she performed it flawlessly.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast from food. But the deeper fast is meant to include fasting from falsehood — including the false selves we perform.

In the Gospel of Mark, a rich man runs to Jesus and kneels. Jesus looks at him and loves him. Then says: "Go, sell everything you have, give to the poor, and follow me." It's not an economics lesson. It's an invitation to drop the script. The man walks away sad. The saddest word in that story isn't "walked." It's "away."

Scripture: Mark 10:21-22

The Demand

Identify one role you perform automatically — provider, peacekeeper, strong one, responsible one, funny one. This week, let someone see behind the script. Tell one person one true thing about how you actually feel.

What Happens When You Do This

You discover that intimacy lives on the other side of performance. And some people will love the real you more than they ever loved the script.

Community Prompt

What role do you perform on autopilot? Find one person this week and show them who's behind the mask.

Prayer for the Day

God who sees behind every performance — I'm tired of the script. Show me who I actually am. And give me the courage to let one person see it too. Amen.
