Ramadan Week 3 continues

The Name You Hide Behind

Story: James, 45, Singapore

James had a lot of names. CEO. Elder. Board Member. The man people called when things needed fixing.

But there was another name — one he never spoke out loud. The name he heard in the dark. The name his failures whispered.

Fraud.

It didn't matter that his company was thriving. That his marriage was intact. That his children still answered his calls. The name played on loop.

And because he never named it, it named him.

During Ramadan, the night prayer — Tahajjud — is when Muslims rise before dawn to meet God in the darkness. It's the hour of honesty. The hour when you can't hide.

Here's the paradox: the names we hide behind have no power until we speak them. And they lose power when we bring them into the light. The woman at the well had a name she was hiding. Jesus didn't expose her to shame her. He named it so she could be free of it.

Scripture: John 4:17-18

The Demand

What's the name you've been hiding behind? Write it down. Don't publish it. Just acknowledge it. Then find one person — a trusted friend, a counselor, a pastor — and say it out loud.

What Happens When You Do This

The name loses its power. Shame thrives in hiding. When you speak it, you discover that you are not the only one who carries that name. And you're not defined by it.

Community Prompt

The name you hide is the name that holds you. Who can you trust with it? Speak it this week.

Prayer for the Day

God of the night hours — I bring the name I'm afraid to speak. Not to be punished, but to be freed. Take the name. Give me yours instead. Amen.
