The Table You're Avoiding

Story: Daniel, 37, Johannesburg

Daniel hadn't been to his men's group in three months.

The excuses were legitimate. Travel. Work. A project that couldn't wait. But underneath the excuses was something else: he didn't want to answer the question they always asked.

"How are you really doing?"

He didn't know how to say, "I'm drowning and I don't know why." So he stayed home. Scrolled. Slept. Told himself he'd go back when he had something good to report.

The table stayed empty. And Daniel kept sinking.

Joe Asiba

We live in the age of connection and the epidemic of loneliness. We have a thousand followers and no one who knows our middle name.

Jesus could have saved the world solo. Instead, he gathered twelve. Ate with them. Walked with them. Let them see him exhausted, frustrated, grieving. He needed a table. If he needed one, what makes you think you don't?

Scripture: Mark 3:14 — "He appointed twelve that they might be with him..."

The Demand

Go back to the table you've been avoiding. The small group. The friend you've been dodging. The community you ghosted. Send one message today: "I've been away. I want to come back."

What Happens When You Do This

You discover that the table wasn't waiting for your success story. It was waiting for you. The real you. The drowning you. The one who needs to be seen.

Community Prompt

What table have you abandoned? Who's been waiting for you to come back? Reach out today — before the weekend ends.

Prayer for the Day

God who gathers — I confess I've been hiding. Give me the courage to come back. And let the table receive me as I am. Amen.
